Omar Rayo Reyes (1928 - 2010) began his artistic career as a cartoonist in 1945, in the Siloé neighborhood, drawing and illustrating for newspapers and magazines in Cali and Bogotá. Since 1948 he has exhibited his works in different cities of Colombia. In 1954 he began to travel through Latin America to study. He lived in Mexico from 1959 to 1960 and settled in New York for approximately ten years. In 1970 he obtained the first position of the National Salon of Artists of Colombia.
He made more than 200 exhibitions in many countries around the world. In his paintings the trace of the indigenous ancestors is appreciated.
His work is dedicated to the geometric figure. Its original style, with clear images. It is a geometric-optical art, which takes advantage of squares, rectangles and zigzag lines and expresses itself with white, black and red.
